The secret to a functional, easily managed structured cabling system starts well before the implementation begins. There are many key factors that must be addressed during the design stage to assure future proofing your cabling system.  For instance, if a client is looking at a long term lease option, say of ten years or more, it would be advisable to spend more on your cabling to future proof the installation. Over a ten year period bandwidth demand will escalate and to re-cable during this period would be an expensive exercise. So to invest more on the original installation is money saved in the long-term. Also the hardware will be refreshed about three times during this time frame. Thus, the cabling budget equates to about 3 percent of the whole IT budget for the total time period.
